Jack Dennis Full Day Fly Casting Clinics

Jack Dennis has the unique ability to clearly and concisely explain the essentials of fly casting in a manner easily understood by a student. He fully understands casting, but more importantly, can effectively convey his knowledge and experience to others. Being a good caster does not necessarily relate directly to being a good instructor and Jack clearly delivers the goods. Jack brings to the individual or audience the ability to see casting through the eyes of the untrained caster. To excel at these instruction tasks, Jack understands the mechanical laws and principles which govern casting, as well.

Jack has the ability to clearly demonstrate:

  • Fly fishing equipment, including fly rods, lines, leaders, flies and miscellaneous items.
  • Various fly fishing methods and techniques used in trout fishing: approach, presentation casts, line handling, hooking and playing fish and safety considerations.
  • Equipment and technique modifications necessary when fishing for other popular species, such as black bass, northern pike, steelhead, salmon, bonefish and tarpon.
  • Angler etiquette in various fishing conditions.
  • Casting, including the essential fly casting mechanics as well as style variations of well-publicized casting teachers. A basic understanding of spey casting and overhead casting with a double handed rod.
  • Controlled narrow loops on both the forward and backcast (his casts will demonstrate and teach the student good symmetry of front and back loops).
  • Controlled wide loops on the forward cast on command.
  • Demonstrate tailing loops on the forward cast on command.
  • Reach, side arm and pile casts.
  • Demonstrate slow, medium and fast false casting.
  • Demonstrate normal roll cast with leader straightening completely.
  • Demonstrate wide and narrow loop roll cast.
  • Explain and demonstrate the cause and correction of tailing loops.
  • Explain rod loading, how line weight and air/water resistance act to bend the rod during acceleration and how the energy thus stored is later used to help cast the line.
  • Explain and demonstrate the casting stroke as it relates to changes in distance.
  • Explain and demonstrate good "timing" when false casting, explanation should include the idea that timing is good when the pause between casts is long enough to allow the line to straighten fully without losing its tension and falling dramatically in the process.
  • Explain and demonstrate casting into a head wind.
  • Explain and demonstrate casting with a cross wind blowing into the casting side

About My Programs and Seminars

All of my programs are digital video presentations where I project the image on a large screen or white wall .The programs are fast paced with sound and music. I provide narration and interact with the audience. I bring all my own video projection units and players and need only microphones for my voice and sound.

I take pride in producing the highest quality presentations available in the fly fishing business today and work constantly to improve their content and quality.
